Modular build – from factory floor to 3 storeys in 2 weeks

  • 20 Dec 2016

Modular solutions to the chronic housing shortage have been a major theme on Buildingtalk in 2016. Below we offer a time-lapse video that shows how a development can be progressed from foundations to a 3 storey building in just 2 weeks.

Modular build – Explore Offsite

Buildingtalk supported the Explore Offsite in the Housing Sector event back in March. This major event for the housing sector brought together technology leaders to discuss the growing opportunities that the housing shortage presents for offsite construction solutions. Explore Offsite will be at Ecobuild 7-9 March 2017 at Excel London.

YMCA affordable housing

Earlier in the year Buildingtalk visited the Y:Cube affordable housing development by the YMCA in Mitcham, south London, that demonstrated how homes can be built in the capital for around £50k. This was a new ‘not-for-profit’ model for house building that could be replicated throughout the UK.

China helps build UK homes

2016 ended with a major announcement about a £2.5bn joint venture with China to build affordable modular homes in UK. Your Housing Group, that currently manages 33,000 affordable UK homes, alongside the Welink Group, a renewable energy company, are to partner with China National Building Material Company.

Video of the Week

Our Video of the Week shows how modern methods of construction enabled Pocket Living to build faster and more efficiently. The time-lapse video shows how the Mountearl Gardens development in Streatham Hill, London was transformed from foundations to a 3 storey building in just 2 weeks. It was also less disruptive for local residents with 60% fewer truck rolls and 90% less waste.
