Stannah has played a star role in the £3.3 million refurbishment of the 19th-century Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, by installing a passenger lift to a tight deadline.
Stannah removed the old model and wall-mounted the new 20-person traction lift into the existing shaft, working seven days a week to meet the deadline, on time and budget.
The lift supports the Theatre’s drive to improve access and facilities to stage door, backstage and dressing room areas to make them accessible for performers and staff, regardless of mobility, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
The lift also plays a vital role in transporting equipment between six floors.
Finished in linen-effect stainless steel, the lift interior features a grab rail and autodialler for added reliability and reassurance.
The traction drive is energy efficient, fast, and smooth, whilst the roomy through-car configuration makes movement much easier for people, as Robert Sanderson, Theatre Managing Director (at the time of installation), commented: “It was just so good to get to the theatre this afternoon and be transported up in the new lift. Thanks for making my working life bearable again!”
The installation was vital to the Royal Transformation Project – the Theatre’s third remodelling in its 154-year history, and part of a wider revamp that includes the Royal Concert Hall.
Carried out in two phases, it ensures both venues remain ‘two of the UK’s most successful touring venues, leading the way for arts and entertainment in the East Midlands region’.
The result is a bumper-size, high-performance passenger lift that supports the backstage access needs of this elegant performance venue, which has more than half a million visitors each year.
As with all Stannah lift products, the passenger lift is covered by Stannah’s comprehensive lift service plan, which includes six service visits in the first year, with continued lift maintenance by the East Midlands branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
