Harry Broxholme, Fabrication and Welding Apprentice at IG Masonry Support, explains why choosing an apprenticeship has opened up more career opportunities in the construction industry, whilst sharing his advice for people considering an apprenticeship.
This comes as an increasing number of young people are choosing to complete an apprenticeship, as opposed to studying full time, as it offers a plethora of benefits, such as gaining work experience in a real working environment and earning while you learn.
My apprenticeship involves fabrication and welding. The big benefit of doing an apprenticeship is you learn new skills while you are earning money. Also at the end of the apprenticeship you gain a qualification which can lead to a full time job.
I’ve developed lots of new skills like how to solve problems and work independently. The experience I’ve gained and the skills I’ve developed of how to weld and fabricate will be a great help me in the future as I develop my career.
I would recommend anyone to do an apprenticeship as you are learning and earning at the same time and you come out with a qualification at the end of it all.
