New Saint-Gobain Weber guide supports specifiers with the flooring process

  • 2 Sep 2019

Architects and specifiers can save time and effort searching for stronger, longer lasting flooring solutions, courtesy of a comprehensive new flooring guide, published by Saint-Gobain Weber.

The new guide provides details of the key technical characteristics of the full product range of industrial, commercial and residential floor screeds and levelling compounds.

The easy to use product selector gives a quick summary of each product’s attributes including application thickness, compressive and flexural strength and curing times.

These technically advanced products are, in some cases, ready for foot traffic after only a few hours after application and can be covered with a soft floor covering in 24 hours.

The guide also provides technical advice on how products can be used together as a flooring system for specification to NBS standards incorporating primer, glass fibre mesh and underlays for damp proofing, acoustic and under-floor heating solutions.

Adam Schreiber, flooring product manager at Saint-Gobain Weber, commented: “The common flooring mistakes we see are selecting the wrong flooring for the job, skipping important steps in the installation process and not fully understanding the product.

“These can be costly and time-consuming problems to remedy, so all of these topics are covered within the guide. We pride ourselves in offering comprehensive technical and applications support to clients, specifiers and contractors.

“With many flooring products available from Weber today, this can be a complex area for specification. For residential and commercial jobs, speed is of the essence.

“Floors need to be laid quickly and be available to other trades in the shortest time possible. For industrial applications, it’s also about strength and durability.

“That’s why we’ve launched this guide to help all specifiers, floor layers and contractors to navigate issues such as drying times, durability, strength and smoothness of finish, as well as to provide essential installation advice.”

Weber’s flooring products are manufactured in the UK, guaranteeing efficient availability and lead times; the company’s product range now includes the proven Low Dust Technology™ formulation, which reduces airborne dust during the pouring and mixing process.

The high performance thin topping screeds, or ‘levellers’, are designed for speed and ease of application, which include weberfloor smooth 4160, used primarily in residential and commercial kitchens and bathrooms.

The fibre-reinforced weberfloor fibre 4310 is particularly suitable in domestic and commercial environments, as a self-smoothing base and renovation screed ideal for use on underfloor heating and insulation.

Other flooring products within the range include Weber’s high-performance industrial hard wearing topping screeds designed for speedy application and maximum durability where exceptional flatness is required such as factories, production areas or warehouses.

The flooring guide is available to download via the Weber website, or you can pick up a copy on Weber’s stand (stand B61, hall B) at the Flooring Show in Harrogate (15-17 September 2019).

Weber also offer a RIBA approved ‘Introduction into flowing floor screeds’ CPD, presented by Weber’s specification team free of charge.

For those who prefer a practical approach to learning, Weber also offers regular flooring training at the Weber training academy in Flitwick.
