Spadeoak helps to create outdoor gym from recycled knives

  • 6 Nov 2019

Spadeoak has recently completed work on a new outdoor calisthenics gym, with the majority of the equipment in the Brixton park made from recycled knives.

This is the latest project from Steel Warriors – a charity that aims to reduce the number of young people carrying knives in the UK through melting down knives that haven’t been used in conflict and creating spaces for exercise.

Spadeoak laid the sub-base, kerbs, equipment and foundations and rubber cumb top-layer on the project, and those involved are delighted to have played their part in such an important project.

Tom Hickmott, Assistant Contracts Estimator at Spadeoak, comments on the project: “We are incredibly proud to have been involved in such a positive initiative. We understand that a key part of tackling knife crime is giving young people an outlet. This gym does exactly that, while getting knives off the street.”

The Steel Warriors project aims to create 20 gyms in total, is supported by the Co-op and contractor Harry Grover, and boasts patrons like former world heavyweight champion boxer Anthony Joshua.
