Newton Waterproofing, the UK’s leading independent supplier of structural waterproofing systems and associated pumping and drainage products, has showcased its commitment to developing by joining The 5% Club.
This club is an industry-led initiative, focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
It was initiated in 2013 by Leo Quinn, CEO of Balfour Beatty, and is a movement of over 300 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers.
Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years.
Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover several diverse industries, from engineering through to the legal sector.
Newton Waterproofing are passionate about developing their workforce to be the best they can be, regularly giving their employees the opportunity to learn new skills, ranging from training members of the Technical team to become Certificated Surveyors in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW), Waterproofing Design Specialists (WDS), or providing customer service training for our sales team.
What’s more, 5% of Newton Waterproofing’s workforce are already in earn and learn careers, with an apprentice who is on a one-year apprenticeship scheme training for their AAT qualification in accounting, and another employee who is studying for their accounting CIMA qualification.
The 5% Club is an ideal match for Newton, as the company is keen to collaborate with other members of the employer-led campaign to share experiences and best practice, celebrate successes and develop thinking around earn and learn careers and routes.
Warren Muschialli, Managing Director at Newton Waterproofing, commented: “Newton Waterproofing are proud to be a member of The 5% Club and are excited to have the opportunity to share and learn alongside other members.
“The company has always valued developing our own employees, as well as bringing in young, talented people to offer them the opportunity to learn on the job in a friendly and professional working culture.
“We are pleased to be joining The 5% Club in pursuing their vision of economic growth, diversity, inclusion and increasing earn and learn opportunities in the UK.”
Lady Cobham, Director General of The 5% Club, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Newton Waterproofing into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR professionals, sharing and learning from each other.
“All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.”
