Pilkington installation at Slimming World HQ wins at major awards programme

  • 6 Dec 2019

Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has won Commercial Project of the Year in the G19 Awards with its installation at Slimming World’s HQ.

Collecting the accolade for the second year running, the glass manufacturer was recognised last week at an awards dinner attended by more than 700 glass and glazing industry leaders.

The installation, supported by Pilkington UK, was part of an £8.5 million renovation scheme at the weight loss organisation’s Derbyshire workspace.

Pilkington UK supplied solar control glass with thermal insulation properties, helping the building stay warm in the winter and cooler in the summer.

It reduces the need for mechanical heating and cooling – while still allowing for maximum natural light transmittance.

Michael Metcalfe, commercial sales manager at Pilkington UK, commented: “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved, with the support of our partners, on Slimming World’s HQ. It is one of the first projects featuring Pilkington Suncool™ 60/31 Pro T glass, which is now fully manufactured in the UK.

“So, it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate a made-in-Britain success story, alongside a new chapter for a well-loved British business.

“Sustainability is increasingly important in the built-environment. With advanced products, like Pilkington Suncool™, buildings can become more energy efficient without compromising on glazing’s aesthetical appeal, or natural light exposure, which research links to healthy living and productivity.

“It’s important to us to keep driving forward these innovations in glass technology as we strive to make a difference to the world. To be recognised for Commercial Project of the Year by G19 for the second-year running is truly an honour.”

This year’s success follows the glass behemoth winning the category last year for its project at 6 St Andrew Square in Edinburgh.

Slimming World’s HQ project was supported by fabricators Advanced Glass Facades, main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction and architects CPMG.
