Acoustic secondary glazing supplied and installed by Granada Glazing has drastically reduced noise levels at a hotel close to the M60 motorway and Manchester Airport.
Located four miles away from the busy airport, Didsbury House Hotel is a Victorian villa with 27 luxurious bedrooms and is often used as an exclusive wedding venue.
Its unique and vintage style meant it was imperative that the secondary glazing blended seamlessly into the building’s aesthetic and maintained its considerable character and charm, whilst also ensuring guests get a peaceful night’s sleep.
Given the hotel’s proximity to Manchester Airport, Granada Glazing recommended the installation of 8.8mm acoustic laminate glass. This glass specification, plus their machine-engineered secondary glazed systems, can reduce noise levels by up to 80%, which is the equivalent of 54dB.
A sound reduction of 54dB will turn the sound of a diesel bus into a whisper.
The acoustic laminate glass was supported in Heritage Hinged Units, Heritage Lift Outs and Horizontal Sliding Units finished in a powder coated white finish to match the existing primary windows.
The installation of secondary glazing also has a positive impact on heat loss. It can decrease heat loss by as much as 60%, reducing a building’s carbon footprint and energy bills.
Secondary glazing is frequently installed in hotel rooms where it offers the best noise reduction performance, with the added benefits of providing a warmer, quieter and more comfortable environment for guests.
