A host of exciting innovations for the UK fibre market will be unveiled as part of the Connected Britain event, running virtually from 23 – 25 September; it will see REHAU‘s RAUSPEED distribution network solution makes it UK debut following considerable success across Europe.
RAUSPEED is the sustainable micro duct system from REHAU Telecommunications, a division of the global pioneering polymer business, REHAU.
The RAUSPEED system covers all installation methods, including duct in duct with dedicated PIA bundle designs, open trench, macro and mini trenching, and no dig solutions like horizontal directional drilling (HDD) or impact mole applications.
Most notably, RAUSPEED has enabled directional drilling of up to 30km in South Germany, whereas the UK record currently stands at 1.2km.
REHAU says this has the potential to save companies significant investment and disruption, as well as speeding up projects dramatically.
Experts from the company’s UK and German divisions will be present throughout the event to discuss its potential impact on the future of the UK fibre network.
Following last year’s launch of the Government’s ambitious strategy for full-fibre broadband in the UK by 2033, manufacturers such as REHAU are continuously developing new solutions to ease the roll out of a nation-wide fibre network.
According to Ofcom’s Spring 2020 update for UK broadband, only 12% of UK premises have full-fibre (FTTP) connections.
Paul Churm, Sales Manager of the Fibre Optic Division at REHAU UK, commented: “As we know, there are a number of reasons that the UK is falling behind other European countries with regards to the fibre rollout.
“That’s why we have been taking learnings from our colleagues on the continent and are excited to bring a game-changing solution to market.
“Looking forward, the expansion of full fibre network relies upon deploying FTTX technology that is future-proofed and failure-safe. Products that allow for a fault free installation will enable ISPs and contractors to get jobs done more quickly.”
RAUSPEED has a 100-year design life and utilises special interior trapezoidal grooving which means an optical fibre cable can be blown in easily even many years down the line.
REHAU UK will be online at the virtual exhibition Connected Britain, taking place from 23 – 25 September 2020. This event is the UK’s leading connectivity conference & exhibition.
It covers full-fibre & 5G rollouts, the digital economy, smart cities and digital infrastructure development, digital inclusions and the evolving enterprise ICT landscape.
Paul added: “We are optimistic about the future of fibre in the UK and in setting about reaching the targets. I think it’s an exciting time for telecommunications and Connected Britain is a great platform to start conversations for moving forward with the full-fibre initiative.”
