Humble Side Projects: Charity Work at Hambleside Danelaw

  • 27 Apr 2021

Hambleside Danelaw has long been involving itself with charity work – not just as a company but as individual employees. In last year, the team have been doing some amazing things…

We’ve all done new things of late – from baking banana bread to creating a Zoom call for the first time. Although the pandemic has forced us to adapt to a new and unprecedented situation, we have been resilient.  One clear way in which this adaptation has had to take place is in terms of fundraising.

Charity organisations are facing a difficult, uphill battle. World Bank estimates 71 million people will face extreme poverty in response to the global pandemic.

The economic impact of COVID-19 has been devastating, with the Office for Budget Responsibility estimating 6.5% of all UK workers could be unemployed by the end of 2021.

Charities Aid Foundation’s report in a survey of charities across 122 countries makes for worrying reading. This showed 73% of organisations were seeing a significant reduction in donations.  At a time where there is still demand, even an increased need for these charities, it is becoming more challenging to provide help where needed.

Hambleside Danelaw’s team all have causes close to them, with colleagues excelling themselves fundraise for all manner of causes.

Incredible Hambleside Danelaw fundraising

Sales Co-ordinator Gary Warrington either runs or partakes in an annual step challenge to raise money for Sands, the stillbirth & neonatal death charity.

Transport Assistant Leonie Eaton organised a raffle to raise money for a local care home and Dementia UK. There were also great bakers, all willing to create and decorate for a good cause, who helped to collect a whopping £210!

Zenon’s Sales Managers for the north and south have both been partaking in charity events, with Amanda Davis completing a skydive, raising funds for Daventry Demcafé and Jo’s Trust, and Dave Frankland tackled the Three Peaks Challenge for Alzheimer’s Society.

A group of colleagues previously completed the Wolf Run, running through mud and overcoming obstacles for the British Legion.

Hambleside Danelaw has no doubt this is only the start, with plenty of fundraising ahead.

Marketing Manager Ann Leeson has just completed a challenge for Breast Cancer Now, a charity committed to research and care for those suffering from the effects of breast cancer.

‘Humbled’

Ann says: “I am definitely not as fit as I used to be and all my joints are screaming, however my 100km March Challenge for Breast Cancer Now is at its end, and I am very humbled by the generosity of colleagues and friends.”

Paul Lambert, who works in Field Technical Support, is undergoing rigorous training to take on the Three Peaks… with a twist.

Paul will be cycling between the peaks to increase the challenge! He will take on this trial in July, and the team will all be cheering him on!

During these difficult times, it is imperative we pull together to help where we can. Whether its donating those dusty tins at the back of your cupboard or walking an extra mile.

From braving the shave to swimming the channel, there are all sorts of wonderful ideas for raising money and awareness.

Hambleside Danelaw are extremely proud of the community and charitable spirit embodied in its employees.
