Recofloor is a ‘huge part of our business’

  • 19 Aug 2021

Named 2021 Brand Ambassador in the annual Recofloor Awards, Fantasy Flooring Ltd says the Recofloor brand and recycling waste vinyl flooring is a ‘huge part’ of their business that carries a lot of weight with larger building companies.

Since joining Recofloor in 2015 as a drop-off site user, the Bristol-based flooring contractor’s commitment to collecting and segregating material for recycling through the take back scheme has earned them a number of accolades.

Their previous awards include…

 – 2015, 2017 and 2019 Drop-off Site User of the Year
 – Managing Director, Mark Purnell, securing the Recofloor Champion title in 2016 and 2018.

Outlining how the scheme works for them, Mark explains their fitters separate the vinyl waste into the Recofloor bags from 7am every day. This is to remove any possible contamination.

The bags are either dropped off at their local distributor 3D Flooring for collection by Recofloor or collected by the flooring distributor when delivering fresh vinyl supplies.

‘100% committed to recycling our vinyl flooring waste’

Mark says: “It’s surprising how much waste vinyl can be generated. Sorting our installation waste is an important daily task at the warehouse; 12 fitters striving to make a difference to our environment.

“Recofloor carries a lot of weight with larger building companies. For example, Skanska recognises our commitment to recycling as we can show them our Recofloor certificate as evidence that we are 100% committed to recycling our vinyl flooring waste.”

Fantasy Flooring Ltd actively promotes their involvement with Recofloor via various channels, such as signage on every company vehicle, on social media and email signatures. Recofloor is embedded in their website, from Recofloor logos in their ‘Home’ and ‘About Us’ pages to a dedicated Recofloor news page, which features pictures of their previous Recofloor awards.

‘Proud to tell the story’

Mark adds: “We promote our recycling work to new customers, which assures them that we can help to reduce the carbon footprint of our vinyl flooring installations.

“More and more customers are supportive of what we do with our waste materials. We are always proud to tell the story of our journey with Recofloor; this has made our company more successful with both existing and new clients.”

Social housing contracts are a key focus for Fantasy Flooring Ltd. Its 14-strong team have worked non-stop throughout the pandemic, invariably deploying Recofloor on these types of projects.

‘It just makes sense’

Mark concludes: “It just makes sense, and from recycling more in the office I recycle more at home too. It has rubbed off on me.

“We will continue to promote and work together with Recofloor to focus on the future and well-being of the planet.”

Set up in 2009 by flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor, Recofloor is the flooring sector’s sustainable take-back scheme for commercial waste vinyl generated from all types of projects. The material is recycled and used in new products, including flooring.

Carla Eslava, Recofloor Manager, comments: “Fantasy Flooring Ltd is an enthusiastic and consistent supporter of Recofloor and the team has thoroughly embraced the scheme. They are a worthy winner of the 2021 Brand Ambassador title.”
