Keen to get up to speed on digital construction? Join the free CPD-fest at UK Construction Week (UKCW).
A free, three-day programme of seminars and CPD sessions on all aspects of BIM and digital construction comes from the UK BIM Alliance. This is through its partnership with UK Construction Week.
Construction’s first major live event since the end of lockdown, UKCW takes place at Birmingham’s NEC on 5-7 October.
UKCW’s Digital Construction Hub will feature more than 30 presentations over the three days, and over 10 hours of learning.
Highlights include an interactive workshop from Birmingham City University exploring the usefulness of Augmented Reality as a visual design tool for urban design projects, and a talk on how Kier’s HMP Five Wells project for the Ministry of Justice provides the perfect storm for digital advancement. This is courtesy of an intelligent client, a digitally enabled and committed supply-chain, technological investment and forward-thinking people.
There will be a practical session from one of the leading legal specialists in BIM. This will review common risks, causes of disputes and how to mitigate them. A deep dive into how Buro Happold has adopted BIM and upskilled its staff will provide very practical advice around skills and development and how they dealt with key legal and contractual risks along the way.
Among many other sessions, there will also be presentations on the UK BIM Framework’s standards and guidance, on the national digital twin programme, and on the latest developments from the Seismic II consortium which is working with BIM and digital software vendors to create a new type of platform for the offsite construction of schools, hospitals and other major projects.
The Digital Construction Hub’s sponsor is Procore and it is curated by the UK BIM Alliance. It will also deliver practical case studies and high impact training sessions every day. All seminars are free to attend and will be suitable for many professionals’ CPD.
“We are planning to be at UK Construction Week in person this year with three days of exciting presentations.
“Days one and three will focus on Information Management using BIM, with case studies, panel discussions, the UK BIM Framework and a look ahead to the future of digital. Day two will have a manufacturing focus with content specifically for manufacturers.
“As a comprehensive programme of content to bring people up-to-date with developments in BIM, sharing real life experiences of implementation and tips on how you achieve the benefits on offer from digitalisation, I don’t think you’ll find anything better this year.”
“UKCW is delighted to have partnered with the UK BIM Alliance on the curation of our Digital Construction Hub programme in 2021, after having pivoted to an online programme in 2020.
“That was an excellent programme, and we can’t wait to see the next one delivered live at the NEC Birmingham this October. It will be a good opportunity for the BIM community to be able to come together face-to-face at UKCW in October, and to celebrate the advancements made in digital construction over the last 18 months.”
UKCW 2021 is expected to attract more than 20,000 specifiers and buyers. On top of that, at least 300 exhibitors providing launches, demos and offers on more than 6,000 products.
