Senior’s starring role in Doncaster’s new cinema complex

  • 23 Sep 2021

Leading aluminium fenestration systems manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems is continuing to make its mark on its home region of South Yorkshire. This follows the completion of another high-profile scheme in Doncaster’s Cultural and Civic Quarter.

Senior’s slimline SF52 aluminium curtain wall system creates the eye-catching frontage of the new six-screen Savoy cinema and restaurant complex. Its location is within the town’s Sir Nigel Gresley Square and next door to Cast, Doncaster’s new performing arts theatre. The striking new building also features Senior’s robust SPW501 aluminium commercial doors at the main entrance.

The building, with design by Harris Partnership and delivery by main contractor Lindum, features a range of Senior’s aluminium fenestration systems. Fabricated and installation was by another South Yorkshire company, Rotherham based Alusec.

The new cinema is one of the latest projects comprising part of the wider regeneration of Doncaster’s historic Cultural and Civic Quarter. Senior has also been appointed to supply the fenestration package for the town’s new Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.

Designed and built by architects Bond Bryan and main contractor Willmott Dixon, the creation of the new cultural and learning hub has been follows the sensitive restoration of four existing buildings.

A key focal point of the scheme, and one looking even more dramatic at dusk, is the restored frontage of a former Edwardian school which has been framed by Senior’s slimline SF52 aluminium curtain wall and showcased within a new steel-frame building.

The striking glazed façade, with fabrication and installation by Senior’s supply chain partner Chemplas Ltd, also features Senior’s robust aluminium commercial doors.

Senior’s head office and main manufacturing facility is in Denaby, just a stone’s throw away from the large minister town of Doncaster. Over the years, Senior has supplied the fenestration package for a number of other new build and redevelopment projects in the area, including the Hilton Garden Inn hotel scheme at Doncaster Racecourse.
