Braintree in Essex holds a regular market, which is a vital focal point for culture, the community and the local economy. Pop Up Power Supplies were recently involved in a scheme that is pedestrianising the town centre of Braintree to create more space for events and street markets.
The project commenced after the local council recognised how much the market is valued and it wanted to provide a bigger, more vibrant area for locals and visitors to the town. In doing so, it could increase the space for stalls and build-in seating to allow the community to gather.
Provision was also made for electricity supplies to forgo the use of generators and running cables. Here, Pop Up Power Supplies was commissioned to provide retractable service units to provide power on demand.
The half-tonne units were required for the market area of the town and were safely submerged out of sight beneath the perimeter of the market. When required, each unit can be easily raised out of the ground using a turning handle and returned the same way when no longer in-use.
In total, eight PUPS 04 pop up units were installed in the town centre. The cover of each unit is neatly recessed to allow for the surrounding surface to be matched perfectly.
George Parker, of Pop Up Power Supplies, comments: “Adding power supplies in Braintree town centre is a really positive step by the local council to create a functional, versatile space for outdoor markets and any other events.
“It is typical of the applications we provide solutions for, having worked with clients up and down the country to provide efficient, sympathetic utility solutions in busy public areas including Chelsea Football Club, Edinburgh Castle, Covent Garden, to name just a few.”
PUPS 04 units provide a power supply of 63 amps single or 3 phase incoming supply, and they can be used to supply electricity, water and telephone connections too.
Durable and secure, the units are manufactured in high grade mild steel and hot dipped galvanised to BS EN:ISO1461 – and each unit is also tested infilled to FACTA Class B loadings.
The unit is one of a wide range of retractable, in-ground and bollard power units available from Pop Up Power Supplies. Its products are widely used in public spaces of all kinds, ranging from historic sites, marketplaces, town squares, parks, universities and sports stadia.
