London Assembly member, Hina Bokhari, is presenting at Floodex 2021, which is co-located with the National Drainage Show. She is Deputy Chair of the Economy Committee, Member of the Environment Committee and the Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, who has asked the Mayor’s office questions about sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS). The Mayor’s office was invited to send someone along, but the offer was politely declined.
Given that 70% of flood incidents are caused by surface water runoff, the role of an efficient drainage and sewer infrastructure is critical, so it makes sense to have both events, working towards a more holistic approach.
Floodex is sponsored by Schneider Electric and the National Drainage Show is supported by the National Association of Drainage Contractors, which is showcasing two very important initiatives at the show; DrainSafe and the Hydrant App.
There are three theatres at the show and one is a dedicated SuDS Theatre, with the first day being taken over by CIRIA as a susdrain Day, covering many of the key aspects of SuDS with a list of eminent speakers, who are considered experts in their field.
The exhibition will have over 70 exhibiting companies, covering a wider range of products and services, whilst the free to attend, CPD accredited seminar programme has a first class line-up of speakers, many of whom you would often pay to hear in a conference. The event is expected to attract around 2,000 visitors over two the two days.
The speakers include key professionals from the Environment Agency, Association of SuDS Authorities, JBA Consulting, Schneider Electric, Thames Water, CIRIA, susdrain, BACA Architects, Zero Pollution Network and Mary Donhau OBE (Flood Mary), amongst many others.
Jon Irwin, Event Director, comments: “We are delighted with the show and despite everything we have had to endure with COVID, this should be our best event yet, having moved it from Peterborough Arena to Excel London.
“We have every type of exhibitor on hand to offer products, services and advice from manufacturers through contractors to consultants and a free seminar programme that most would pay good money to attend.”
Anyone remotely interested in finding out more about how they can prevent and mitigate against flooding, or planning and installing good drainage should attend, whether you are a developer, planner, building contractor, estate manager, landowner, business owner or have any responsibility for land and property.
It goes without saying that this event is an invaluable information gathering opportunity for anyone working in flood and drainage engineering and management.
The Floodex and National Drainage Shows take place from 9 – 10 November at ExCel London. They open at 9am on both days, with seminars starting at 10am.
Entry is free by registering at www.floodex.co.uk and www.drainageshow.com. Here, you will find full contact details a list of exhibitors and presenters.
