As the construction industry readies itself to deal with the impending changes to Part L of the Building Regulations this summer, Marley has produced an exclusive report – Part L: Is the construction sector ready?
Based on research undertaken with more than 200 important stakeholders, including architects, housebuilders and specifiers, the report assesses current knowledge of, and preparation for, the uplift to Part L among those charged with implementing the new era of regulatory control designed to drive the building of low carbon and energy efficient housing.
Investigating levels of Part L ‘confidence’ across the sector, views on sustainable technologies such as solar PV, and highlighting the primary challenges the industry faces, the report sets out compelling insight about what the sector thinks and plans to do as the Part L changes loom large.
Stuart Nicholson, from Marley, comments: “This new report is an important addition to the ongoing sector debate around the Part L changes and how they will impact the industry.
“Touching on skills, responsibilities, sustainable product solutions, specification processes, and Part L awareness levels, it shines an informed light on where we are as an industry.
“As a result, we have been able to draw out a set of pertinent conclusions that summarise what the research is telling us. They signpost the main technical and practical challenges as identified by architects, housebuilders and specifiers, which could act as potential constraints on the short-term objective to build new homes that deliver a 31% reduction in carbon emissions.”
