Imagine this – you’ve chosen a made-to-measure staircase for your project. But when it arrives on site, your carpenters can’t fit it safely because the treads or handrail don’t fit. Before you know it, you’re faced with project delays and unplanned costs.
This is a common issue that can easily be solved with dry assembly.
In this post, Multi-Turn discusses its dry assembly process and how it can help protect profits on your project. Read on to find out more…
During a free site survey, Multi-Turn’s project team will visit your site and take accurate measurements of your area. This information allows the company to precision-build your staircase to spec. This means when it is installed on site, it fits first time.
When your staircase is being built, a Stair Press is used to glue all straight sections of the staircase together as a single unit, whilst winders and posts are dry assembled.
Multi-Turn then puts all components of the staircase through quality control, where it is checked off for quality and squareness. This also allows the company to carry out any necessary adjustments.
With each element of the staircase manufactured and dry assembled, Multi-Turn’s team will deliver your staircase to site, where it can be seamlessly installed by any qualified joiner or carpenter – with minimal site work required. Some minor cuts may be necessary, but Multi-Turn’s site survey and dry assembly ensures this is kept to a minimum.
Not only does this help to make your project run smoothly, but it also means that no skilled tradesmen are sat on site, unable to progress with their work.
Multi-Turn estimates that this step could save you up to £200.
You will receive detailed instructions on how to fit the staircases, but here are some notable suggestions for those working on site.
Once all straight and winding treads have been glued, screwed and wedged into place, do not walk up and down it for 24 hours. This allows the glue to fully set. By not following this guidance, the staircase treads may squeak.
Straight treads and rises are pre-cut to length and width so avoid trimming them. If you have any problems, just give Multi-Turn a call.
All treads should fit tightly to the trench in the string and wedges must be fitted tightly.
Whilst dry assembly aims to make the carpenter’s and/or joiner’s life easier, it doesn’t mean installation practices should be overlooked. Poor installation can cause the stability of the stair to be reduced, leading to premature failure and ultimately the collapse of a stair.
The installation process has inherent risks and adequate support for the stair is necessary until fixings to the surrounding structure are in place.
Working with numerous builders and developers over the years, Multi-Turn has come to understand the clear and obvious importance of every element of a project running smoothly. It’s key to maintaining profit margins and is why the company takes accountability through every step of the journey to creating your stairs.
