Finger protection from Strand Hardware meets requirements

  • 4 Jul 2022

Window and door hardware manufacturer, Strand Hardware, is urging specifiers to opt for finger protection devices that meet the BS 8613 standard for safety and durability.

Finger protection is defined in BS 8613:2017 as ‘a device intended to minimise the risk of crushing injuries to fingers in the gap between the hanging stile of the door leaf and the door frame’.

Sadly, not all finger protection devices are made equal, with some examples becoming brittle and breaking due to their plastic composition. Products that meet BS 8613 are easily identifiable as they will bear the manufacturer’s markings and classification. All finger protection offered by Strand Hardware meets this ‘gold standard’.

It is estimated that between 40,000 and 80,000 accidents, mainly involving children trapping their fingers in doors, occur each year, making the specification of quality finger protection essential across schools, hospitals, retail environments, health centres and commercial premises.

Additional benefits to buying finger protection from Strand Hardware include some products offering a lifetime guarantee, bespoke size specification for items up to 2,500mm, and the availability of special RAL powder coated finishes for customisation.

Various types of finger protection are available with some being integrated within the door system and others covering the gap between the door and the frame.

Craig Fox, Strand Hardware’s Sales Director, comments: “None of our stock can be defined as ‘one product fits all’. Our extensive range provides a range of devices for various door materials and applications. We prefer to work closely with customers to provide the ideal solution for their project needs.

“When it comes to finger protection, don’t be tempted to buy cheap. It makes sense to buy once and buy quality.”
