Southampton Football Club’s new state of the art training has created a modern training space for its players – which includes everything from the latest equipment right through to ventilation. Discreetly maintaining the ideal atmosphere within the 450 square metre gym are 30 Gilberts’ GSFR circular swirl diffusers.
Installed by 2Teck for main contractor Brymor Group, the omni-directional units discreetly fitted into the exposed ductwork void between decorative ceiling panels provide both supply and extraction of air into the equipment & training area.
The design of the GSFR allows high volumes of conditioned air in a horizontal discharge to be supplied into the internal space below, delivering rapid entrainment and intermixing without subjecting the elite athletes below to draughts or noticeable changes in temperature or air quality.
The GSFR units also enable higher air change rates compared to conventional diffusers to maintain the compliant air quality irrespective of the contribution to CO2 and water vapour within the atmosphere generated by the physical activity below.
Tim Greenwell, Chief Operating Officer for Southampton Football Club, comments: “We are really pleased to have opened our new gym which really boosts the training facilities available to our men’s and women’s teams.
“The work of multiple partners over the course of a challenging project has left us with a modern training facility that we believe will help us deliver the levels of performance required to gain promotion back to the Premier League and into the WSL.
“A key part of the design is the infrastructure that allows us to closely maintain the right environment for all players to work in optimally.”
Southampton FC’s Staplewood gym is the latest in a line of prestige sporting venues for which Gilberts’ key building services components feature. These include the London Stadium, Liverpool’s Anfield, and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
