The Rooflight Association and MCRMA (Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association) have agreed to collaborate closely on a number of design, specification and safety issues relating to industrial and commercial buildings and warehouses.
The Rooflight Association represents all of the UK’s manufacturers of profiled and factory/warehouse rooflights, as well as contractors, consultants and other businesses serving this and other construction sectors.
The two associations have collaborated in the past, to produce technical guidance documentation covering rooflighting in metal clad buildings. However, this agreement will lead to a more structured approach and the establishment of joint working groups to tackle specific issues.
Ian Weakford, RA Chairman, says: “This move is an important step toward our goal of achieving a more ‘joined-up’ roofing sector, in which businesses involved in all the elements of the building envelope, share a common commitment and understanding of factors relating to design, installation, performance and safety.
“We believe that this is particularly relevant in today’s construction industry, as technology and legislation continue to evolve at an increasing pace.
“A draft plan of topics to be addressed has already been drawn up and we look forward to working closely with our colleagues at the MCRMA.”
Carlton Jones, MCRMA and IoR Director, comments: “Both the MCRMA and the RA have a strong vested interest in the building envelope of industrial and commercial buildings and warehouses. Members of both associations recognise the importance of highlighting the need for roof safety to those who gain access to and work within the roof area of these buildings.
“In addition, the associations recognise the accompanying technical, environmental and sustainability credentials of the products and systems and a close working relationship between the MCRMA and the RA will provide further development opportunities.”
The Rooflight Association’s membership comprises rooflight manufacturers, contractors, installers, consultants, specialist distributors and other businesses – and it works in partnership with a number of other roofing-related trade bodies and organisations.
