MCRMA 2024 award winners announced

  • 4 Oct 2024

The association representing the metal cladding and roofing sector, the MCRMA, has formally recognised the outstanding contribution that five individuals have made to advancing the industry in its 2024 awards.

The winners were announced at the networking dinner organised as part of the recent two-day MCRMA Technical Conference, which was attended by over 60 members and selected guests representing all disciplines in the metal building envelope supply chain.

As the first event of its kind in over a decade, the conference was warmly welcomed by members, many of whom had not previously attended a forum of this kind where the key technical and legislative challenges facing the building envelope sector could be explored with fellow members.

The Excellence in Engagement Award was presented to Chris Hall, External Affairs Director at Siderise Insulation. He received this award for his creativity in devising a roadshow event that he and his team organised exclusively for MCRMA members at the company’s innovation centre in South Wales. The format of this event was very effective in helping all those involved in the metal building envelope supply chain to develop their skills and knowledge, and support them as they adapt to legislative change.

Alexandra Hepworth, Marketing & PR Executive at Firth Steels was awarded the Marketing & Communications Award. She impressed the MCRMA with the creative way she shared her experience of completing the association’s three-day ‘Technical Appreciation Course’ with a wide audience, particularly using social media posts during the course to highlight what she had learned.

The Next Generation Award was presented to Lina Adomavičienė, Technical & Sustainability Manager at Sealprem. In a male-dominated industry with an older demographic, the MCRMA management committee wanted to recognise Lina as a younger individual who had progressed rapidly and is making a valuable contribution to the industry.

An award was also presented to recognise an MCRMA member who had helped the industry set high standards through their technical expertise, and that was presented to David Roy, director of Roofconsult. David received the Technical Contribution Award in recognition of the detailed knowledge, information and calculations he provides to systems manufacturers, designers and other industry professional to help them achieve demanding standards and comply with codes of practice.

Finally, the MCRMA management committee presented the Cliff Dyer Award to Nick Selves, an independent roofing and cladding consultant and Director of RSK. Nick is highly experienced having worked in the sector for more than 40 years, and his depth of technical knowledge is reflected by the fact he regularly serves as an expert witness to help resolve disputes relating to roofing and facades.

Nick is Chairman of BS542 Code of practice for the use of profiled sheet for roof and wall cladding on buildings, as well as Chairman of B/542/5 & 6 covering BS and BS EN for profiled metal and harmonised standards. His outstanding contribution was fitting for this special award which the MCRMA established to commemorate the life and work of Clifford Dyer who was the founder and director of the MCRMA, who passed away in 2012.

Chair of the MCRMA, Clare Fenton, comments: “The awards give us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and publicly acknowledge those MCRMA members who we feel really have gone the extra mile in the past year to take our industry forward. The 2024 winners show the high calibre of individuals that we’re privileged to have in our industry, demonstrating expertise and creativity that is so important to ensure the metal cladding and roofing industry is continuously improving and setting ever higher standards.”
