Bespoke solid surfaces from leading manufacturer and supplier Velstone have transformed science laboratories at Culford Preparatory School in Bury St Edmunds.
InterFocus, specialists in laboratory furniture solutions, needed an exceptional worktop material for renovating the labs which could withstand daily student use while maintaining hygienic safety standards and their aesthetic for years to come.
The company partnered with Velstone due to its solid surface material’s proven track record in the education sector, however critical to the decision was Velstone’s unique ability to provide a bespoke colour in the specific thickness required – something no other supplier could provide for a project of this scale.
Custom-sized worktops in Velstone’s distinctive C310 Cygnet Onyx colour were supplied, helping to create a sophisticated aesthetic throughout the laboratories, with the Velstone team manufacturing and machining more than 30 sheets in-house to minimise waste and maximise efficiency before delivering them to the site ready for installation.
Alex Clark, Velstone’s Operations Manager, says: “While the timeline presented significant challenges, we communicated clearly about lead times for the bespoke colour throughout the process, ensuring InterFocus could plan effectively despite the tight schedule.
“InterFocus did a brilliant job and the laboratories now provide an inspirational environment where students can learn for decades to come.”
Facing tight time constraints, with internal fittings being carried out during summer holidays, Velstone went above and beyond for the project, unloading a container on a Sunday evening to ensure materials reached the factory first thing Monday morning. The factory team then completed the worktop production within three days, enabling on-time delivery to the site.
Sameer Sawant, Velstone‘s Director, adds: “Educational facilities represent a core market for Velstone, and our extensive experience delivering large-scale school projects proved invaluable here. The solid surface worktops we supplied are engineered specifically to withstand the rigorous demands of school laboratory environments while maintaining their visual appeal.”
