EnergyFollowing Ofgem’s announcement yesterday morning that the energy price cap will rise by 13% in July, increasing bills for UK households by £200 per year, Dave Raval, CEO of LoftZone, has commented on why this news should be an important consideration for developers and why insulation can make a huge difference as a selling point with this in mind…

“Yesterday’s announcement confirmed that yet another hike in energy bills is on its way – something we’ve all become too familiar with in the UK. With heating bills due to skyrocket when autumn comes, and heightened cooling costs needed to cope with heatwaves throughout summer, potential homebuyers are more conscious than ever of energy efficiency when investing in a home.

“With that in mind, developers have an opportunity to set themselves apart from competitors by really focusing on providing a good foundation in new homes. So much focus is currently put on solutions like heat pumps, solar panels, and EVs to solve energy inefficiencies, but they come with high upfront costs that just aren’t affordable to most.

“Instead, proper loft insulation with raised boarding can improve energy efficiency in a loft – and therefore reduce bills – by up to 50%. Saving future homeowners hundreds of pounds a year on their energy bills should be a strong selling point, so implementing a seemingly unimportant change while in the development phase of a build could end up putting you out in front of the competition.”
