Vehicle fleet introduced by GLASSOLUTIONS

Efficient vehicle fleet introduced to enhance glass delivery service

  • 3 Sep 2015

With the aim of improving the efficiency and safety of its on-site deliveries, GLASSOLUTIONS has invested £600,000 in a new Crossrail standard vehicle fleet.

The company’s commercial glazing customers – which are based across the UK – are set to benefit from the introduction of the fleet.

With each of their individual projects requiring different quantities and sizes of glass, it was important to introduce a flexible fleet which could cope with between 15 and 50 daily drops.

GLASSOLUTIONS has commissioned five new liveried trucks to accommodate a number of site access situations from its centrally located Peterborough factory. With open backs, the vehicles have been introduced to improve delivery services.

The trucks also feature mounted forklifts, eliminating the need for hire of additional equipment. They range from 7.5 to 26 tonnes in size.

Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme

Fitted to the Crossrail safety standard, the vehicles comply with the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Bronze standard; their introduction has moved GLASSOLUTIONS closer towards Silver accreditation.

FORS is essential in making fleet operations are safer; it also increases fuel efficiency and cuts the vehicle emissions of a fleet, making it more economical.

All vehicles operating out of GLASSOLUTIONS’ Peterborough factory have been fitted with audible warning systems, which have been developed to warn pedestrians and cyclists of its manoeuvres. Cameras have also been incorporated to allow drivers to spot risks before incidents could occur.
