Scottish Galvanizers invest in steel preparation tanks

Scottish Galvanizers invest in UK’s largest steel preparation tanks

  • 8 Sep 2015

Scottish Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has invested £500k in the installation of the UK’s largest steel preparation tanks in an attempt to streamline its operations.

The Glasgow-based galvanizing company has installed two large pickling tanks on its site. The tanks are used to prepare steel before the hot-dip galvanizing process takes place by chemically removing rust, impurities and stains.

Paul Tait, Customer Service Manager at Scottish Galvanizers, explained: “The new tanks are a fantastic addition to the facilities we already have, and will help us further speed up processes, as well as provide capacity to take on even more projects.

Galvanizing has a typically quick turnaround, but tanks like this help reduce lead times even more for customers and their own supply chain.”

Building toward the future

Measuring at 22m in length, the acid pickling tanks are designed to make the preparation of steel easier before being treated, enabling bigger pieces to be processed.

The new tanks follow the recent redevelopment of Scottish Galvanizers offices, where its meeting and conference areas have been enhanced with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.

Paul added: “As a result of this positive business growth and major investment, we’re better placed for future growth and expansion, and have the facilities to cater for increasing customer demands – a move which will also see us able to share knowledge with our customers and stakeholders about the galvanizing process and its crucial place in a variety of UK sectors.”
