The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council recently visited the Lisburn site of ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY.
Based in Ferguson Drive, Lisburn, ASSA ABLOY Security Doors employs 75 people to design, manufacture and install bespoke steel doors and windows. The Lisburn division’s portfolio of projects includes The Shard, the Olympic Stadium and Heathrow Airport.
The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “ASSA ABLOY delivers an important role within the city; not only raising the profile of the Lisburn area across the world but also providing employment and investment for the local economy.”
ASSA ABLOY Security Doors Managing Director Brian Sofley used the opportunity to provide a comprehensive overview of its business portfolio; in terms of structure, achievements and future developments across the globe.
Chairman of the Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, who also visited the factory, added:
“The setup is absolutely fantastic here and it is great to see a local company represented in all major regions, in both mature and emerging markets, with leading positions in much of Europe, Middle East and Africa.”
ASSA ABLOY Security Doors has recently invested in a new manufacturing process that will improve lead times for customers, positively impact on the environment and further enhance product quality.
The Salvagnini CNC features auto-feed and seamless punching and folding capabilities – combined with a fast, heat cured bonding system – to ensure improved precision and accuracy, reducing manual handling of products.
The process is being used at the Lisburn facility for the production of existing products, but the full impact of the investment will be seen through the launch of a new door design that incorporates a full interlocking seam on all sides of the leaf.
The new door platform reduces the manufacturing time and improves the aesthetic qualities of the door leaf; by removing unsightly spot-weld marks.
The new design also eliminates processes such as welding and grinding, significantly improving the environmental impact.
