Historic church redecorated and repaired in restoration project

  • 17 Sep 2015

Novus Property Solutions has carried out a number of crucial refurbishment to a historic church in High Wycombe. The restoration project included an internal redecoration, in addition to extensive repair work.

The design for St. Francis of Assisi Church was contrived by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect behind Battersea Power Station and Britain’s iconic red telephone box.

Novus Property Solutions was contracted to refurbish the Grade II Listed church, whilst adhering to English Heritage’s requirements for preservation.

Over a six month period, the company re-rendered the church’s internal elevations, replaced the lighting throughout the building and restored the windows and vestry rooms. The restoration was overseen by GMTW Architects.

Solving restoration project problems

The church was suffering from damp and its state of lime was dire. To solve this sizeable problem, Novus’ team replaced the poor-quality lime and painted it over with specialist paint.

Birdcage scaffolding was employed – along with a complex tube and board system – to help the team reach all areas of the church’s interior and carry out their work safely and efficiently.
