First of all, my thanks to Schueco UK for their kind invitation to BAU 2015 – it was quite an experience!
BAU in Munich is one of the worlds biggest trade fair for architecture, materials and systems.
The exhibition covers an enormous area, set out in a very logical square grid that is about a kilometre in both directions so I had a good workout getting around the show.
One of the principal reasons for my visit was to look at two major new facade systems from Schco the Parametric System and the Design Cover Concept. I think these innovations will change the way buildings are designed and offer unique energy efficiency opportunities.
The Schco Parametric System allows the creation of highly complex, freeform, three-dimensional facades that gives architectsand developers a practical way of creating stunning building exteriors.
The Schco Parametric System is based on a software-supported, digital 3D process chain with optimised data interfaces from the draft design to the detailed drawing by the fabricator, followed by exact fabrication and reliable installation. The system offers maximum design freedom, a high degree of planning reliability and cost certainty, as well as efficient fabrication and installation.
At BAU I was also able to see the revolutionary Schco Design Cover Concept prototype. This demonstrated how freeform, opaque cladding is possible as an economical system solution for residential and commercial projects. The flexible, adjustable 3D substructure means it is now practical to create complex surface geometrics in a wide range of materials, including folded and curved coloured sheet metal panels as an alternative to large-scale glass areas with traditional mullion/transom constructions.
The Schco Design Cover Concept provides a complete, cost-effective workflow from a single source: from planning, through fabrication to installation.
