Based in North Wales’ Cowny Valley, Surf Snowdonia incorporates the world’s largest Wavegarden, which simulates surfable waves.
The lagoon is expected to be a major attraction for the UK’s sporting enthusiasts, with waves spanning for over 150m and reaching 2m tall.
It will be able to accommodate 52 surfers at one time; they will be able to ride 70cm, 1.2m and 2m waves in the same pool. This feature will allow surfers of all abilities to enjoy the lagoon.

A wavefoil machine will run along the bottom of the 300m long pool.
With a similar look to a snow plough, the machine will create a wave motion as it travels back and forth across the lagoon.
The water will react to the different contours on the bottom of the lagoon, creating a range of waves.
In order to protect the surfers, the underwater machinery will be covered by a stainless steel netted screen. It will be controlled by a gearless ropeway drive system and towers either side of the pool.
The lagoon is expected to use a vast amount of water, which Surf Snowdonia has considered.
Pumping Solutions has been contracted to supply the equipment necessary for pumping water throughout the lagoon; this will ensure that the water will be recycled.
Valuable resources will thus not be wasted.
