Over the past quarter of a century, many changes have taken place in the UK contractors and council waste collection teams no longer collect waste but make collections of resources, and wheelie bins are used instead of dustbins.
Greater environmental awareness has meant that the industrial and commercial waste market has changed from plastic to metal containers, whilst recycling and manufacturing techniques continue to improve.
ESE World has been involved in the recycling of more than four million plastic wheeled bins and now produces containers manufactured from 100% recycled material.
Around 80% of the UK’s population lives in urban areas, accounting for 10% of the land space and creating a dense and complex waste management challenge.
Semi underground infrastructure for waste collection has provided an efficient and cost effective option, with European countries such as the Netherlands and Finland using the technique for some 20 years in order to recycle waste.
Underground and semi underground waste collection systems can be situated in places where there is limited space, offering the opportunity to segregate recyclable materials at the point at which they are thrown away and more waste can be stored and transported with less frequent use of vehicles.
