  • 20 Jan 2015

Kingspan Tarec has contributed to the construction of Marks and Spencer’s energy saving store by supplying its Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation

The store, which is over 200,000 square foot in size, was designed by Aukett Fitzroy Robinson to include energy saving features. These measures include hemp and lime wall panels and a rain water harvesting tank, which can hold up to 80,000 litres.

Kingspan Tarec Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation was chosen as pipework insulation for the energy efficient project. Featuring a passivated liner solution, the product has been designed to keep pipe thickness to a minimum.

It was installed on hot and cold water services throughout the building and to the fan coil units in the main food hall.

The product possesses a BRE Green Guide rating of A and is manufactured to a BS EN ISO 14001:2004 scheme. In addition, it meets the criteria for Responsible Sourcing credit.

It has attained FM Global insurance Approval Class 4924 Pipe Insulation and has a Euroclass rating of BL-s1,d0. The product also offers a fire performance approved system with a 2 hour fire rating.

A post occupancy assessment has shown that Marks and Spencer Cheshire Oaks uses 42% less energy than a retail space of the same size. The energy saving building has won the RIBA National Award 2013 for Workplace and New Build of the Year. It also holds a BREEAM Excellent rating.
