Waterproofing and green roof solutions for London housing development

  • 7 Apr 2015

The podium roofs, lightwell areas, wraparound terraces and individual/penthouse balconies of Ebury Square’s private residences were fitted with Alumasc’s Hydrotech monolithic membrane.

The company’s registered contractor, Tilbury Contracts, specified 3,800 square metres of the product for installation to the areas, which were all completed as inverted roof designs.

Alumasc Roofing has supplied its waterproofing and green roof systems to Ebury Square, a new housing development in London

Waterproofing with Hydrotech

Hydrotech is a hot-melt system which has been developed to provide waterproofing.

Designed for green roofs, podiums and water feature schemes, at least 10% of the system is manufactured with recycled material.

The development’s main roof areas were fitted with a Hydrotech anti-root waterproofing system, drainage boards, inverted roof insulation, sedum mats and green roof substrates.

The courtyard was also insulated and waterproofed with a drainage board providing support for its raised areas and stairways.

Waterproofing the basement

As the development is situated above a London Underground route, the concrete slab at ground level was placed on anti-vibration springs.

It was also isolated from the surrounding construction to prevent damage to the building from the vibrations below.

The resulting joint between the isolated and non-isolated structures needed to be waterproofed to prevent water from entering the basement.

To achieve the desired effect, the joint was strapped with FlexFlash UN, an uncured neoprene rubber.

The complete Hydrotech 6125 system was fitted on both sides to ensure watertightness whilst keeping the slabs isolated.
