An introduction to daylight design document launched for specifiers

Daylight design document covers glazing materials & thermal performance

Following on from the company’s existing document, NTD01.2, ‘Natural Daylight Design through Rooflighting,’ the new publication also refers to other NARM literature covering specific details including glazing materials, non fragility to thermal performance.

Rooflights provide three times more light than vertical glazing to provide a more even distribution in larger structures, whereas vertical glazing will only allow for natural lighting within 6m of the wall containing the window.

Although it is understood by people involved in building design that rooflights provide the exact amount of natural light required to meet any given specification, their performance qualities are often underestimated.

NARM represents rooflight manufacturers

The National Association of Rooflight Manufacturers (NARM) represents manufacturers offering a selection of rooflights, including modular domes, pyramids, flat glass rooflights, in-plane profile rooflights, continuous barrel vaults, panel glazing systems and architectural glazing systems for skylights, lantern lights and atria.

NARM provide help to specifiers on the provision of high quality natural daylight into all types of buildings.

The new document provides information on what factors to take into consideration when designing and specifying glass, thermoplastic or GRP rooflights and can be downloaded from the NARM website.

For further information, please contact NARM using the contact details on our website, where you will be directed to the appropriate person.
