The new document has been prepared by NARM’s Technical Committee, and gives generic information on types of daylight, health and wellbeing, followed by detailed and up-to-date specification information and data.
Since the 1990s, the definition of lighting quality has encompassed human needs, architectural integration, and economic constraints.
Until the late 1990s, lighting recommendations were based primarily on lighting needs for vision. In more recent years, the lighting community has adopted a broader definition of lighting quality encompassing human needs, architectural integration, and economic constraints.
The NARM document addresses these topics in clear language, making it accessible to both professionals as well as homeowners.
The publication offers practical design advice, with informative layout diagrams designed to help maximise daylight whilst avoiding solar heat build up. In addition, there is a detailed chapter on energy efficiency – a subject that NARM has championed through commissioning of independent analysis over a number of years.
‘An introduction to natural daylight design in domestic properties’ is listed as NARM Technical Document 12 (NTD12) and is available for free download from the NARM website.
