Home Farm Observatories used the sustainable, old-growth timber due to its impressive performance characteristics.
Siberian Larch’s popularity lies in the fact that it is aesthetically beautiful, naturally durable and long lasting.
Living in an ideal location to better observe celestial events, Nick Tanton contacted Home Farm Observatories wanting to take advantage of the elevated obvserving position and low horizons his garden offered.
2.5 x 3.5m in size with a roof that slides open to uncover the scope, both the walls and roof were clad in Siberian Larch.
I chose Silva Timber’s Siberian Larch Channel Cladding because it would produce a watertight result with a pleasing aesthetic, said Nick, who was initially impressed with the existing website images and the helpfulness of the staff.
Home Farm Observatories, who made and erected the joinery, praised Siberian Larch due to its excellent weather protection and dimensional movement.
Nick eventually painted the wood in order to keep it cooler in sunlight. Sansin SDF’s range is recommended for an opaque finish, offering UV and moisture protection for up to 15 years.
