Choosing timber for its tactile, warm and inviting aesthetic, Alistair turned to Silva Timber having previously used its wood finish and fasteners on a previous project.
No.2 Clear & Better is the second highest grade of Western Red Cedar that Silva Timber supply, Clear Vertical Grain Heart being the highest.
The Western Red Cedar was selected based on its character, varied colours tones and aroma.
No. 2 Clear & Better is the second highest grade of Western Red Cedar supplied by Silva Timber, however it allows for minor natural variations in appearance.
I didn’t select Silva Timber’s highest grade of Western Red Cedar as I wanted some variation in the grain.
Some of the Western Red Cedar No.2 Clear & Better boards we received were quite plain and other had an interesting grain pattern, stated Alistair.
We decided to juxtapose the interesting grain with the less patterned pieces to further accentuate the grain.
My favourite piece was placed just above eye level for maximum impact.
