Construction Industry Grand Challenge seeks innovation and ideas

  • 26 Aug 2015

The competition offers two challenges, in which six finalists will present and discuss their ideas with leaders in the fields of construction technology, engineering and academia who will judge and select the winners from each category.

New and emerging technologies

The first challenge – New and Emerging Technologies – related to uncovering a big, yet viable technology-based idea that will significantly reduce energy consumption at any, if not all stages in the life cycle of built assets.

This can relate to any stages in the construction life cycle, from component design and manufacture through to build and on-going usage.

The prize for the winning entry is a place on Singularity University’s 7 day Executive Program.

Leadership 35

Leadership 35 will target people under 35 who have the vision and personal qualities to bring a new approach to sustainability leadership within the building industry.

The winner will be awarded a place on the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business or Value Chains at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.

Each of the winners will also be offered a 3-month paid internship within Bouygues UK’s in-house Sustainability Department – giving winners the opportunity to participate and understand how innovation is realised inside a commercially-focused organisation.

A special discretionary award will also be offered for the applicant with the most promising idea selected by Bouygues UK. The recipient of this award will be offered the opportunity for their idea to be taken forward as part of Bouygues UK’s corporate R&D programme.

The Construction industry Grand Challenge aims to use the power of business to create a sustainable future. It encourages free thinkers to develop ideas in areas where there is potential to put their idea into practise to help the construction industry.

The Challenge is sponsored by COINS, in support of the COINS Foundation and in partnership with leading construction companies and industries. The competition will reach its conclusion in early December.
