DEVImat underfloor heating recommended for wet rooms

  • 29 May 2015

DEVImat UFH is designed to create a warm, comfortable surface to walk on whilst protecting against damp and safety issues.

When installing an electrical heating element under a wet room floor, safety is paramount.

Wet rooms have a high exposure to moisture and are therefore susceptible to problems with damp and mould. In addition, standing water may accumulate on the floor creating a slipping hazard.

To tackle these issues, UFH will evaporate water away and, combined with an extractor fan, dry out the entire room.

DEVImat electric UFH is installed just below the floor tiles so the heat transfers quickly to the surface. When heating is not required constantly, the wet room floor can still be dried efficiently via the DEVIreg timer and thermostat control.

Safe installation

The IEE 17th Edition wiring regulations identify wet rooms as Zone 0 – that is, one requiring the most rigorous safety precautions.

“It is recommended that all wires are earth-sheathed with a metallic grid so that any damage to the wiring will instantly run to earth and trip the circuit breaker,” explains Steven Rooney, director of Gaia.

He continues: “While many imported systems incorporate an earth screen, ours is the only product where the entire system is encased in an aluminium sheath and can add that extra element of safety”.
