At 12,000 square foot, the Eagle House is at the centre of Shoreditch’s entrepreneurial life.
Sporting an Art Deco theme, the building has recently been renovated by Terry Farrell & Partners to offer 200 residential apartments and business services.
Avanta Services Offices’ business centre occupies the first and part-ground floors of the 1930s building; Armstrong Ceilings’ mesh metal ceiling tiles were specified for installation in its offices and meeting rooms.
The brief was to produce an industrial rustic vintage scheme to reflect the building’s location, which is near to Shoreditch’s Old Street roundabout.
To meet the design requirements, Amalgam and Paragon decided to primarily expose the building’s M&E services whilst retaining the exposed structure of the internal fabric.
The design and build company felt that Armstrong’s mesh metal ceiling tiles could be used to create an open industrial ceiling in the meeting rooms and offices.
In total, 850 square metres of the grey and black ceiling tiles were supplied in Axiom knife-edge canopies.
Amalgam worked directly with the developer while the residential fit-outs were in progress; fresh air was introduced into the building via VAM units, co-ordinate drainage was fitted, and suspension rods were fixed for the mesh ceilings through the existing slab insulation.
Over the course of a year, a team of eight men worked to fit Armstrong’s mesh metal ceiling system.
The 600mm x 600mm mesh metal lay-in board tiles were set within Axiom knife-edge canopies and installed; they were finished with a polyester powder coating.
Laid in an elongated diamond pattern, the tiles feature a 62% open area to assist with air flow and ventilation.
One of West Fraser’s customers, in a redevelopment project, is employing the company’s high performance panel products where a building is being transformed into a three-storey, five-bedroom dwelling with a rooftop sun deck.
