Independently verified, an Environmental Product Document (EPD) relays information about different products and their environmental impact.
Around 450 EPDs are currently published, containing information on a variety of products from 150 different companies.
They can be viewed in the international EPD system.
After a life-cycle assessment, Fermacell’s gypsum fibreboards were awarded an EPD.
The assessment reviewed factors such as raw material extraction and energy generation; raw material transport was also considered.
The entire production process of the fibreboards was also evaluated, including the packaging and disposal of the boards.
The fibreboards were evaluated for renewable and non-renewable primary energy.
They were also assessed for the potential for global warming, eutrophication, acidification, photochemical ozone creation and ozone depletion.
The EPD confirms that the boards can be handled, processed and cut without special tools; it also confirms that they are recyclable, with a 50-year life span.
The declaration covers Fermacell’s boards for ceilings, floors, internal walls and external rainscreen backing. Its Greenline board, which has been designed to absorb volatile organic compounds from the air, is also included.
