The development consists of a three-storey complex combining retail use at ground floor level with residential care homes above.

The 45 extra care homes took the building to the limit allowed by planners, so a flat roof of Protan SE single ply membrane was specified for the redevelopment.

Roofing contractor Phase 9 Roofing loose laid and mechanically fixed some 1500m2 of Protan SE standard overlap light grey membrane over 150mm rigid insulation, OSB board and timber joists.

Phase 9 Managing Director Jag Rai said that Protan was selected for delivering an ñaesthetically-pleasing yet cost effective long-term solution.î

Available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm, Protan SE is designed to cope with extreme weather conditions – certified to _ -30Á.

Hot-air welded at joints and mechanically fixed to the roof, the membrane has been developed to achieve durability in excess of 30 years. In addition, air leakage has been minimised in line with the latest building regulations.

Ensuring an energy efficient product, Protan SE membrane is certified to deliver requirements laid down in Approved Document L, and, under the Green Guide, achieved a A rating.
