Roof design software & prefabricated single ply assist in value engineering

  • 2 Jul 2015

By looking beyond ‘up front’ material costs, contractors could save themselves from being left exposed with a reduced profit potential.

There are many factors that contribute to the cost of the job – including how much labour is involved – and if they are not considered, they can cause dispute when specifications are changed to meet cost constraints.

Protan has developed a package of solutions, aimed at helping to eradicate some of the issues that design and build projects frequently face.

The combination comprises Protan’s roof design software and its prefabricated single ply solutions.

Proplan roof design software

Protan’s prefabricated single ply and roof design software have been developed to assist with up-front value engineering

In Proplan, an autoCAD 2D or 3D visualisation of the proposed roof is produced, detailing everything from the specification of materials to the manufacturing and site assembly details.

By incorporating detailing, such as corners, penetrations and perimeters, the system is able to provide an accurate estimation of the total roof costs.

It also allows for comparison between different roofing techniques, enabling designers and contractors to calculate the most efficient way to build the roof.

Prefabricated single ply solutions

Factory welded to order, Protan’s prefabricated membrane is created in an efficient combination of roll size, width and length.

Designed to minimise on-site labour, it optimises quality control over external influences of weather, detailing and workmanship, whilst reducing wastage.

By using this available resource, contractors can calculate a valid cost for their job before starting their work.
