Spacious London building development benefits from box rooflight installation

Glazing Vision’s three wall mounted box rooflight has been used to transform Vintry Court’s flat roof into a communal terrace

According to RIBA, spacious homes can have a positive impact on children’s education, public health and an individual’s wellbeing.

It is, thus, important for architects to implement space into the planning, design and management of their projects.

Creating space with box rooflights

Vintry Court is a building development, offering four stories of residential homes in London.

Space has been a consideration throughout its design and construction.

To make the most of space and light, the project’s architects decided to use a box rooflight to transform the building’s flat roof into a communal terrace.

Glazing Vision supplied its three wall mounted box rooflight to the project.

Measuring almost 2.5 metres in span, the rooflight was supplied in two sections to create a 50% clear opening.

It forms a physical structure, meaning that balustrades do not need to be installed.

The system’s supporting framework is almost invisible, which allows for a clean external aesthetic. Internally, a high distribution of glass ensures that natural daylight is able to diffuse through the system.

It has been supplied to Vintry Court with a white powder frame to match the building’s interior.

Safety concerns and solutions

Glazing Vision installed dual proximity sensors to make the rooflight a safer place for the children accessing it; if the sensors’ beams are broken, the rooflight automatically stops.

The company’s override safety system was also supplied to prevent the rooflight from closing if an obstruction is detected.
