Fire alarm system provides safety and reliability at London Underground

  • 25 Sep 2014

Fire Systems Ltd, worked alongside Kingfell Engineering, NG Bailey Rail and BAM Nuttall to design, supply and install the fire alarm system to the site, achieving a high standard of functionality and reliability across the wide range of facilities in the event of an emergency.

Fire Systems produced their system around Kentec Syncro analogue addressable control panels, supported by Hochiki ESP protocol fire data communications, with aspirating smoke detection specified in order to cope with the high ceilings in the depot’s shed.

Four detectors were installed in each shed, protecting around 1000m2, whilst each eight aspirating detectors were connected via Stratos Addressable Protocol Interface Cards.

As personnel working in the depot’s maintenance sheds are required to wear ear defenders due to noise, xenon sounder beacons with a voice alarm system were installed in these areas to ensure that these individuals would be alerted if a fire alarm should be set off.

The accommodation facilities for onsite construction staff was fitted with 14 dampers within the ceiling voids, controlled by four way damper control panels interfaced onto the fire alarm panel.
