Renewable heat pumps installed to tackle fuel poverty

  • 14 Jul 2015

After the first consultations about renewable heating incentives were published in 2009, Shropshire Housing Group considered it would help to provide renewable technologies.

Bernard Quinn, Investment Manager for Shropshire Housing Group

The Group devised an affordable warmth action strategy back in 2010 to remove all residents from fuel poverty over a period of time, using renewable technology to replace electric and solid fuel heating systems.

Renewable heat pumps

The Ecodan system was specified to provide a reliable heating system that can provide a constant temperature throughout the day and offer simple controls for tenants.

Almost all of the residents have found the heat pump technology easy to control, and most made savings between 25-50% on their previous electricity bills.

Specialist installer, the Dodd Group, was brought in to discuss the new heating systems with tenants and help educate them on how to get the best out of the systems.

Furthermore, the Group’s housing management staff received training on the heat pumps, and both the Dodd Group and sheltered housing staff have been on hand to help residents if they have had any difficulties in using the heating systems.
