Composite panels specified for malt whisky distillery

  • 6 Aug 2015

Isle of Harris Distillers has raised £12m to finance the construction of its malt whisky distillery in Tarbet, Harris and the maturation warehouses.

It plans to begin production in early autumn.

Steadmans provided over 1,700m of its 30mm thick AS35 composite panels, in juniper green, for the warehouses.

This consisted of almost 980m for the roofing, and over 740m for the walls.

The whisky distillery, based on the Isle of Harris, chose Steadmans’ composite panels for its roofing and walls

The company also supplied 750m of Zed purlins, over 500m of C sections, 50m of eaves beams and 500m of flashings, plus fixings and accessories.

The materials were installed by 3B construction, which provides an in-house service for building, civil engineering, structural steel and agricultural products throughout Scotland.

AS35 composite panels

Steadmans’ AS35 composite panels consist of two coated steel profiles bonded to a core of PIR insulation, which are used to form roofs, down to a four-degree pitch, and walls.

The AS35 system includes a comprehensive range of guttering, flashlights, sealants and roof lights.

Certified to ISO 9001:2008, using environmentally responsible technology, the AS35 panels also provide a high standard of thermal performance and have a predicted service life of 40 years.

The panels are available in thicknesses ranging from 40mm to 137mm; they can be specified to achieve insulation U-values, aiding compliance with the latest L2 regulations.

They are also Loss Prevention Certification Board approved.
