Colour and character for social housing refurbishment

Johnstone’s Trade has delivered a perfect colour specification for a large-scale social housing refurbishment in Perth.

Perth-based Mackay Decorators, and Johnstone’s Trade, chosen to repaint and refresh the exterior and interior of 30 housing blocks originally built in the 1930’s and now managed by Fairfield Housing Co-operative in Perth .

Fairfield Housing stipulated that the colour scheme was to remain exactly as it was in order to maintain the character of the buildings

Mackay worked closely with staff at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre to make use of its colour tinting equipment to deliver a perfect match.

This included more than 4,500 litres of Johnstone’s Stormshield pliolite based masonry finish for the exterior of the properties.

Ian Beeching, senior maintenance officer at Fairfield Housing Co-operative: Johnstone’s and Mackay worked together to provide the full range of colours we needed to remain faithful to the original 1930s tenement style of the properties, matching to features like the ceramic floor tiles. The properties now look much brighter and we’ve had some great feedback from our tenants since the project completed.

Johnstone’s Painter of the Year awards

This project was shortlisted in the Residential category of the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year awards. Judges were impressed by the quality of the finish and the sensitive way Mackay Decorators worked around residents during the project.
