Ryan Chamberlain will be joined in the final at this year’s National Painting and Decorating Show by Alex Bussey, Martin Owen, Rhiann Iglesias, Zeekey Giles, Matthew MacDonald, Joel Mortlock and Daniel Holdcroft.
The heats took place across the spring at colleges across the UK, with eight finalists now in contention for the Young Painter of the Year Award.
The winner will receive a prize haul worth up to £2,000 – including VIP tickets to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final 2016 at Wembley and the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year black-tie event.
To reach the final, the participants had to demonstrate a wide range of skills including their ability to work from a detailed specification, which involved marking out a complex design and applying Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Acrylic Durable Matt in light and bright colours.
Technical experts from PPG Extra were on hand to oversee the students’ work and provide expert advice and guidance.
