Aggregate Industries host pop-up concrete gallery

  • 15 May 2015

The event featured an extensive seminar programme, aimed at architects and specifiers, focusing on the new concrete techniques and materials which are enabling innovation in building design and construction.

Simon Marriott, Director at Aggregate Industries, said, “London is the centre of the world’s creative industries, of which architecture and construction are a vital part. By showcasing developments in concrete materials and techniques here, we celebrated our industry’s achievements, while enabling visitors to look at the subject differently and identify new paths to success.”

With guest presenters from BASF, Lytag, Bonar and the Concrete Centre, the seminar programme covered the following topics:

Concrete Technology for Sustainable Construction (BASF)

The UK launch of an advanced, concrete mixture proportioning service, Green Sense Concrete. The seminar included case studies from the United States and Middle East that demonstrated how the services enhanced the sustainability credentials of designers and contractors.

Watertight Concrete Solutions (BASF)

The exploration of waterproof concrete solutions to ensure structures are designed and constructed to keep unwanted water at bay. The seminar covered hydrophilic pore blockers, superplasticizing admixtures, placement methods and good practice.

Lightweight Concrete (Lytag)

An overview of the various uses and benefits of Lightweight Aggregate, covering drainage and SUDS, geotechnical land fill, precast concrete, green roofs and screeds.

Fibre Reinforced Concrete (Bonar)

A seminar focused on the use of micro and macro fibres in concrete, including fire resistance replacement of traditional steel reinforcement and offer for indemnified designs.

Concrete Technology and modern Admixture Advancement (BASF)

This session looked at the use of modern, high range water reducing agents, workability retention in concrete, self-compacting concrete technology and adjusting the setting time of concrete.

Specialist Concrete Overcoming Construction Challenges (Aggregate Industries)

Focused on varying currently available solutions from RMX supplies in the UK to assist in overcoming the challenges facing designers and contractors. Discussions included the benefits of rapid setting concrete and self-compacting concrete, including placement in and around water and aggressive environments.

Visual Concrete (Concrete Centre)

The seminar looked at visual concrete and how it is once again being appreciated and used expressively by architects.

Decorative Concrete (Aggregate Industries)

This session explored various decorative concrete applications and options, including integral coloured concrete, exposed aggregate concrete and fair-faced concrete.
