Cement boards used in the construction of new Academy

  • 23 Jan 2015

Cempanel cement particle boards from Cembrit have been fitted to the Ormiston Horizon Academy School in Stoke-on-Trent

The Ormiston Horizon Academy, built to meet the latest environmental building standards, can accommodate 1050 pupils. The Academy has been fitted with an assembly and dining hall, a learning resource centre and studios to be used for dance, performance and other activities.

10,000 square metres of Cempanel, Cembrit’s cement particle board, was installed to the building to create an interior skin.

The boards specified for the project were 10mm thick to ensure a strong structure was created.

Cembrit manufacture its Cempanel range from a combination of wood particles and cement with the aim of creating a bond that is both stronger and lighter than plasterboard.

The project’s cladding contractor, ISEC Interior Systems, has also used Cempanel cement boards to provide insulated rain screen on the main Academy building.

The cement boards, which have been designed to provide sound insulation as well as moisture and impact resistance, are Class 0 fire rated and available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses.

The insulation properties of the cement boards also allow for energy efficiency.
